TTC to hold ITF women's event

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Big time tennis will return after more than a decade to the capital city, with the Trivandrum Tennis Club having earned permission from the International Tennis Federation to conduct a $25,000 women's event.

The event, according to the TTC secretary, H. Krishnamoorthy, will be held from May 14 to 20. The tournament christened the `Kerala Open' will be an annual event, Mr. Krishnamoorthy said.

The Kerala Open, he added, will be the first ITF women's pro circuit tennis tournament to offer hospitality to players and their companions, free of cost. The top four will also get a five-star holiday at Kumarakom or an equivalent holiday destination in Kerala besides the prize money. — Special Correspondent
