Power reforms: Manmohan unhappy

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Irked at the slow pace of reforms in the power sector, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Planning Commission to suggest bold steps for joint implementation with the States.

A statement from the Prime Minister's Office said that at a meeting of the Planning Commission on Monday, called to review issues pertaining to power, agriculture and education, Dr. Singh expressed concern over the slow pace of power sector development and reforms. He advised the Commission to devise State-specific strategies for agriculture development.

Dr. Singh also reviewed implementation of programmes such as the NREG scheme and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
