Swamy flays Rahul for remarks

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

In a statement here, Dr. Swamy said, "Mr. Rahul Gandhi does not know that the lock of the disused Babri Masjid was ordered to be opened by the Faizabad Sessions Judge in 1986 only because of the complicity and concurrence of the Congress Government in Uttar Pradesh. At that time, his father Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister. The subsequent laying of the foundation stone in 1989 for the temple by the VHP was also formally witnessed by the then Union Home Minister in his father's Government."
