70 posts lying vacant in Palani college will be filled: Minister

Alumnus Periasamy urges students to strive for being employable

PALANI: With a view to help children in rural areas get better education, all assistance, including funds, would be given to develop infrastructure and strengthen teaching facilities in educational institutions run by the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple administration, said K.R. Periakaruppan, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.

Addressing the convocation of Sri Arulmigu Palaniandavar College of Arts and Culture here on Tuesday, the Minister said that since the college was functioning with a skeletal staff, the 70 posts lying vacant in various departments would be filled shortly. Adequate funds would be sanctioned for modernising the college and polytechnic, as modern facilities and experienced faculty members were essential to provide quality education.

Development of education and agriculture sectors alone would make the country economically strong, he added.

I. Periasamy, Minister for Revenue and Prisons, recalled his days at the college as a basketball player. He urged arts graduates to shed their inferiority complex and instead be self-confident, as they have abundant employment opportunities.

They must develop their skills to make themselves employable, as degrees alone would not ensure jobs.

"Learning should be a continuous process as updating knowledge is essential to survive in this highly competitive world."

S.V. Balasubramaniam, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the temple, said that the temple administration was planning to modernise the arts college and polytechnic and fill vacant teaching posts. He appealed to the Government to grant permission to undertake modernisation work.

T. Pitchandi, Special Commissioner and Commissioner (HR and CE) presided over the function. Later, both the Ministers gave away degree certificates to graduates.
