The collegians to cover another 200 km on cycles in a few days

WITH A MESSAGE: The college students from Bhdrak who are on a cycle expedition in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday

BHUBANESWAR: Setting sight on making people aware on continuous degradation of coastal ecosystem, a group of college students have covered a distance of over 300 km on bicycle along the coast of Orissa.

As many as seven students from Chandbali College in Bhadrak district will complete another 200 km in the next few days. Riding bicycles under the campaign, `Searching for Green Friends', these students reached the capital on Tuesday. However, they could not meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

These cyclists kicked off their campaign from Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district and would finish it by touching Chilika Lake in Puri district. Bhitarkanika and Chilika Lake are two ecologically sensitive spots of the state.

Novel ideas

"We will build a chain of people who are really concerned about their environment. Our members found that most of the people with whom we interacted hold degrading ecosystem responsible for frequent visit of calamities," Biswaranjan said. These college students also came up with different ideas and sought views from people on their way.
