Railways conduct trial tests of RCRRV

Jammu: Set to be shifted to Kashmir valley, Indian Railways has conducted trial test of its modern rail-cum-road rescue vehicle (RCRRV) on Jammu-Udhampur railway track in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, senior northern railways officials said.

"Modern rail-cum-road rescue vehicle (RCRRV) was tested on Jammu-Udhampur rail line and it tested perfectly well," they said.

The RCRRV is a rescue truck that runs both on roads and rail track to reach out to the places of rail accidents, they said.

The second trial of the RCRRV would be conducted on March 26 on the same track for its certification, they said.

High Court imposes fine on ISKCON

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on an International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple here for lifting verbatim the script of Ram Lila written and staged by Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra and acting it out during the "Navratras'' last year.

Justice A. K. Sikri passed the order on a suit by the Kala Kendra accusing the temple management of violating its copyrights on the script. He directed the temple management to pay the fine to the Kala Kendra within four weeks.

Mr. Justice Sikri directed the Kala Kendra to use the fine money for charities. In reply, counsel for the Kala Kendra said the money would be donated to the mid-day meal scheme for school children here.

Ex-Minister to contest polls as independent

GHAZIABAD: Former Uttar Pradesh Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Rajpal Tyagi has decided to contest the coming State Assembly elections as an independent.

Mr. Tyagi, who is the local sitting MLA, has decided to contest the election from Muradnagar in this district.

The Samajwadi Party had earlier declared him as its candidate from Muradnagar, but he declined the party ticket.

Mr. Tyagi resigned as State Rural Development Minister last month after the Supreme Court verdict in February disqualifying the Bahujan Samaj Party rebels who defected and helped in formation of the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government in 2003.

He joined the new political party floated by the BSP rebel MLAs which later merged with the SP.

Children lodged in remand home

Varanasi: Three siblings, aged between five and seven, were picked up by police from a Delhi-bound train at Mughalsarai junction on Tuesday after they were found to be travelling on their own and lodged in a children's remand home, GRP sources said.

The children -- Vinod, Annu and Simu -- were unable to recall their native place although they gave their parents name as Narendra and Rekha.

Passengers in the general compartment, who saw the wailing children, informed the GRP police when the train reached Mughalsarai this morning.

The children will be in the remand home until they are united with their family, the sources said.
