5th Pillar gets going at inaugural function full of surprises

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The inauguration of 5th Pillar's service centres, seeking to improve transparency in government departments, on Sunday had many elements of surprise.

One of them was the handing over of a staff to the president of 5th Pillar India.

Founder of 5th Pillar International M.B. Nirmal, while inducting president Vijay Anand said: "I don't know what for you will use this staff. Gandhiji used one such to walk ... but this could also be used as a tool to get things done."

While explaining what the four pillars of the legislature, the executive, the judiciary and the press stood for, its website — www.5thpillar.org — says the fifth pillar was taking shape.

The fifth pillar was meant to hold up the society, members of self-help groups and non-governmental organisations. The organisation is located at 1, Anna Road, Kodambakkam, Chennai. Call 65273056 or email ENDcorruption@5thpillar.org.
