Expedite road widening: Jaju

Staff Reporter

Officials asked to be prompt with compensation to affected parties

HYDERABAD: Not satisfied with the current pace of road widening in several parts of the twin cities -- especially in taking over private properties coming in the way -- MCH Commissioner, Sanjay Jaju, has urged his officials to deal the issue on a top priority.

At a review meeting conducted in the head office on Tuesday with his staff, the Commissioner said that there should be no delay with regard to issuing cheques for land compensation for the affected parties during road widening.

Those still holding out should be convinced on the need to hand over their properties for widening main thoroughfares for the overall development of the city.

Flyover work

Similarly, he wanted the flyovers construction going on at Punjagutta, Greenlands, Chandrayanagutta and Nalgonda crossroads be speeded up.

If necessary the private contractors undertaking the construction job should be asked to deploy additional staff to complete the projects within the stipulated time frame, he is learnt to be have told his officials.

Referring to delays in construction of new foot over bridges which were already cleared under `Fund Your City' campaign and the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) mode, Mr. Jaju wanted the Town Planning staff to locate and identify prime locations where these structures were very much needed in heavy traffic zones.

The engineering staff should also be drafted into the work so that the FOBs can be put up in a coordinated manner and faster. Additional Commissioners - N.V.S. Reddy (Traffic & Transportation), K. Dhananjaya Reddy (Planning & Projects), and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
