MDMK functionary detained in hawala case

CHENNAI : Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) functionary Seema Basheer was detained by the Q Branch police on Tuesday evening.

Police said he was detained in connection with the hawala transaction, in which Barakath Ali had already been remanded. Based on Ali's interrogation, Basheer was taken for questioning, police said. According to sources, Basheer was being taken to Tiruchi, where he would be produced before a court for remand. Basheer, belonging to Mannady here, is the State organising secretary of the MDMK.
