Social justice: inclusive approach stressed
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Speakers at a seminar on Monday called for a more enlightened approach to breaking the caste barriers that hampered social progress.
They said social movements should be inclusive to take women and the Dalits with them in their fight for social justice and equality.
Presiding over the seminar on casteism held as part of the eighth all India conference of the Democratic Youth Federation set for May 8-11 here, journalist S.P. Agathiyalingam said the Hindutva forces had been trying to drive a wedge between forces that had been fighting caste oppression.
K. Manikumar, of the Madras Institute of Development Studies, said radical land reforms would go a long way in harmonising the fight for social justice. Writer V. Geetha said intra-caste marriage was an important factor in perpetuating the caste system.
