French learning centre in Mangalore

Special Correspondent

MANGALORE: Mangalore will soon have a French learning centre. A group of French scholars headed by Shakoor Siddharth have held talks with enthusiasts in the city for setting up a French language and culture laboratory.

There has been no such centre in the city after the Mangalore branch of Alliance Francaise closed down some years ago. Speaking to The Hindu Mr. Siddharth told The Hindu that the centre would include a French language and cultural centre, documentation and resource centre, a library and "mediatheque" services. Regular and tailor-made language courses would be conducted, he said. Mr. Siddharth said that there were various grades and methods of learning French. The toughest one was learning French through French without the aid of any other language, he said. The latest methods were a range of research-based learning programmes. They were easier and interactive, he added.
