HYDERABAD: Close on the heels of the CRISIL rating for its overall performance earlier, AP Transco has bagged a gold shield from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for its outstanding performance in "availability of high voltage transmission system" (220 KV and 400 KV) for supply in 2005-06. Transco CMD Rachel Chatterjee will receive the prestigious shield from the Prime Minister a function at Delhi on Wednesday. The availability of Transco's high voltage transmission system, which plays a key role in reducing transmission losses and ensuring quality/reliable power to consumers, had gone up to 99.87 per cent in 2005-06 from 99.85 per cent the previous year. It was 99.35 per cent in 2003-04. This was the fruit of a massive expenditure of Rs. 774 crores made by the power utility to expand and strengthen the high voltage transmission network.
Periodic inspection
The State now has 2,686 circuit k.m. of 400-KV transmission lines with seven sub-stations of that capacity, and 11,570 circuit km of 220 KV lines (243 sub-stations). The high percentage of transmission system availability in the State was possible following periodic inspection of the transformers, patrolling of the lines, etc. At the same time, different power stations of AP Genco have received "Comprehensive Award" of the Union Power Ministry for their outstanding performance in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
