Thiruvananthapuram: Tamil actor Vijay arrived in the city on Tuesday to a tumultuous welcome by his fans. Vijay's visit was in connection with the 75th day celebrations of his box office hit `Pokkiri.' Malayalam actors Suresh Gopi and Kunchakko Boban and MLA V. Sivankutty were present at a function organised at the SL Theatre complex. Well before the function, the roads leading to the theatre were jammed with Vijay's admirers. A heavy police posse was posted to control the crowd which milled around the theatre. The actor found it difficult to reach the venue and had to be escorted through the cheering crowd by the police. The traffic police had a tough time regulating and diverting the movement of vehicles. Vijay presented a shield to the theatre for screening `Pokkiri' for 75 days. The function was organised by the film distribution company Thameens Release. Later in the day, Vijay visited the Mahila Samajam Orphanage at Poojappura where he interacted with the children. The actor served food to them and also sat down to have lunch with them. He presented a cash award to a Class XII student for outstanding performance in examinations.
