NEW DELHI: The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has been directed to finalise and issue the Delhi Electricity Supply Code and Performance Standards Regulations under Section 57 of the Electricity Act, 2003. Issuing the directive, the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi has asked the DERC to bring out the document not later than May 31, 2007. DERC officials said the Delhi Electricity Supply Code and Performance Standards Regulations are ready and would be submitted to the Government in the next few days. The document would focus on existing rules about metering and billing among other services that the power distribution companies have to furnish. The regulations after being notified by the Government will provide consumers guidelines on what to expect from their discoms, officials said. The DERC has also been directed to introduce "Time of Day Metering System" in a time-bound manner for better demand management and give incentives to consumers for energy conservation.
Pilot project
The Delhi Government's Power Department had proposed to start a pilot project in three residential areas where the concept of ToD (time of day) metering would be introduced. The concept allows people to get power during lean hours at rates lower than peak-time charges.
