NEW DELHI: Two alleged drug traffickers, including a woman, have been arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Singhu border in North-West Delhi. The Directorate claims to have recovered 40 kg of Afghan heroin during the operation. In a separate case, the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police has arrested three persons and allegedly recovered 22 kg of fine quality heroin from their possession. Acting on a tip-off about a consignment of heroin being smuggled into the Capital by two persons from Punjab, DRI sleuths intercepted a jeep at the border around 12-30 a.m. on Tuesday. The team recovered 20 kg of heroin concealed in a hidden cavity under the seats, following which the accused were arrested. The two identified themselves as Bibi and Honey. During interrogation, they purportedly disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Amritsar. At their instance, another team raided a property in Amritsar and recovered 20 kg of heroin from there. More raids are being carried out at several places to track down other members of the cartel. The DRI suspects that the seized consignments are from Afghanistan and are being pushed into the country through the Indo-Pakistan border along Punjab. On March 15, the Delhi police arrested Surjeet Singh, Manjeet Singh and Gurusewak Singh and seized 22 kg of heroin from them. According to the police, they were arrested when they arrived at the parking lot of Gurdwara Majnu-Ka-Tila in a car. During interrogation, Surjeet purportedly revealed that he was earlier into supplying poppy straw. But his trucks were once seized, following which he vanished from the scene to evade arrest. About two years ago, he came into contact with an Amritsar-based drug-lord and began supplying the stuff to Delhi. His accomplice Manjeet Singh is a drug addict and works as his bodyguard. Manjeet's job was to check the quality of the heroin by inhaling it. The third accused, Gurusewak, belongs to a middle class family. He was lured into the drug peddling business by the prospect of making easy money. In yet another case, the Narcotics Branch arrested Naved in Mumbai and his accomplice Mohammad Aslam in Delhi on charges of their involvement in cocaine smuggling
