Anand loses blindfold game

  • Sasikiran suffers his first loss at Zafra

    NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand's poor run in the blindfold games continued when he lost to leader Vladimir Kramnik in the fourth round of the Amber blindfold and rapid chess tournament in Monaco on Tuesday.

    In the rapid game, Anand drew with Kramnik and maintained his second spot in the standings. Overall, Anand shares the fifth spot with three others at four points. The action resumes on Thursday after a day of rest.

    At Zafra, in Spain , K. Sasikiran suffered his first loss after surrendering to Armenia's Gabriel Sargissian in the fourth round of the Ruy Lopez International chess festival.

    Blindfold: Vladimir Kramnik (Rus) bt Viswanathan Anand; Teimour Radjabov (Aze) drew with Vassily Ivanchuk (Rus); Loek van Wely (Ned) bt Alexander Morozevich (Rus); Francisco Pons Vallejo (Es) lost to Peter Svidler (Rus); Levon Aronian (Arm) bt Magnus Carlsen (Nor); Peter Leko (Hun) drew with Boris Gelfand (Isr).

    Rapid: Anand drew with Kramnik; Ivanchuk bt Radjabov; Morozevich bt Wely; Svidler bt Vallejo; Carlsen drew with Aronian; Gelfand drew with Leko.

    Standings: 1. Kramnik (6.5), 2. Aronian (6), 3. Ivanchuk (5.5), 4. Svidler (5), 5-8. Gelfand, Morozevich, Leko and Anand (4 each), 9. Carlsen (3), 10-12. Radjabov, Vallejo and Wely (2 each).
