Plea to ban garlic and onion at Tirumala

Consumption of these vegetables kindles anger and passion, say religious leaders

TIRUPATI: Public opinion against the sale, usage and consumption of garlic, onion and such other vegetables and spicy items at Tirumalais gathering ground. Though the TTD has already taken a decision to impose a ban on them, it is yet to enforce it.

Various Mathadhipathis and Peethadhipathis visiting Tirumala in course of their sojourns are also said to have asked the TTD to enforce the ban on the ground that the consumption of garlic and onion kindle the sense of anger and passions in the human beings. The Tirupati head of the ISKCON, and Sriranga Narayana Jiyar of Srirangam have quoted from Sasthras, Puranas and science magazines in support of their pleas.
