CHENNAI: A project to translate the Tamil texts of Siddha system of medicine into English is on the verge of completion. The translated version is to be published soon, according to Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasami. Six doctors worked on the Rs.50 lakh project for two years and produced six volumes, the Minister told a meeting here recently. Releasing `Parkinson's Bayangaram' (Fearsome Parkinson's), a book by A.V. Srinivasan, he said more efforts were required to investigate the various remedies Siddha offered. He also expressed hope that a project, for setting up an English-medium Siddha college, proposed by him to a private hospital chain would materialise. It would benefit students from other States and countries. The Minister also led the speakers in highlighting that Parkinson's disease was not terrifying and could be controlled with proper medical care. The speakers felicitated the author for having chosen Tamil as the medium, as it would enable more readers to access the valuable information the book contained. Poet Kanimozhi received the first copy.
