Nandigram incident sad: Manmohan

NEW DELHI: Breaking his silence on the Nandigram incident, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday described the loss of life in police firing as ``sad.''

``It is an event which should not have happened,'' Dr. Singh told newspersons after the Defence Investiture ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Asked if the killings could be a setback to the setting up of special economic zones, the Prime Minister said, ``I don't think so.''

The Nandigram issue had paralysed proceedings in Parliament for five days. — PTI
