KOLLAM: A team from the Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) on Wednesday inspected the Velichikala area in Kollam where serious environment issues have cropped up on account of wanton clay- mining. Senior scientist of CESS Padmalal led the team. The inspection was consequent upon a memorandum submitted by the Velichikala Action Council to the Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy. The action council had been spearheading a campaign against the mining activities since the past many months. The inspection, which began at 10 a.m., lasted for four hours.
All aspects examined
All aspects on the impact of the mining in the region were examined. The CESS report in this connection will be submitted to the Government in two weeks time.
