Varsities flouting affiliation norms: AUT

Coimbatore: The Association of University Teachers has alleged that most of the universities in the State are violating their Statutes and Acts in granting affiliation to new colleges and courses.

In a statement here, association president N.Senthamarai lamented that students of some of the colleges that had not been granted affiliation had also been permitted to appear for examinations. "It is unfortunate that universities continue this violation of norms despite repeated representations by teachers' organisations. Shockingly, affiliation has been granted throughout the year."

Prof. Senthamarai charged the universities with granting affiliation adopting "calendar year" norm replacing the "academic year" norm. This was "devoid of any rationality," he contended.
