BERHAMPUR: Former chief justice of Orissa High Court Lingaraj Panigrahi was remembered by intellectuals at a function held at Lingaraj Law College here on Wednesday. Dignitaries like president of the Utkal Sammilani Basant Panigrahi, Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University J.K. Baral described late justice Panigrahi as a multifarious personality in whose memory this institution has been established. Mr Panigrahi as a jurist had donned the post of chief justice of Orissa High Court. He had also delved into politics and become the Education Minister. During the British era he had attended the round table conference as a legal expert. During his youth he happened to be the private secretary of Anne Besant and was the president of the youth wing of the Home Rule League. He had played a major role in the development of educational facilities in south Orissa. He had started a law department at the Khallikote College of the city which later got transformed into Lingaraj Law College. Best law student of the institution Kiran Kumar Pradhan was conferred the R.V. Raman Murty memorial prize on the occasion. Post Graduate Council Chairman of the Berhampur University B.K. Sahu, principal of the law college L.K. Dev and former professor of economics Prahalad Panda were also present.
