NEW DELHI: Bringing together the best of Indian memorabilia will be Osian's-Connoisseurs of Art's preview of "ABC Series III Auction -- Art, Books & Cinema" at Visual Arts Gallery here this Sunday. The special art section will include the iconic works of Gaganendranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, F. N. Souza, M. F. Husain, S. H. Raza, Shanti Dave and Biren De. These works are especially aimed at upcoming art collectors looking for small masterpieces. The books section will focus on antiquarian books with many dealing with Indian culture and heritage. Among the most significant works is a collection of poems by "Poet of the East'' Iqbal, illustrated by A. R. Chugtai and signed by former President of Pakistan General Zia-Ul-Haq. There is also a book on Chughtai's paintings illustrated by Abanindranath Tagore and Asit Kumar Haldar. Other rare books include "Drawn and Engraved'' by Thomas and William Daniell, which shows accurate representations of Daniells' journey in India and "The Rulers of India & the Chiefs of Rajputana'' by Thomas Holbein Hendley. The costumes of the chiefs in all their finery are also beautifully depicted in this book. The cinema section includes rare paintings of K. Asif's historical film "Mughal-e-Azam" along with a complete set of beautiful black and white photographic stills from the photographic memorabilia of Sohrab Modi's film "Nausherwan-e-Adil''. Rare photographs of yesteryears' film stars Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Raj Kapoor and Premnath playing cricket to raise funds for a charitable cause, textile labels depicting religious iconography of Krishna, Lakshmi and Saraswati, and some eye-catching calendar art and postcards will also be there. Posters of Bollywood's leading star Amitabh Bachchan and noted actor Shammi Kapoor will also be auctioned. These posters will depict the essence of film poster art and design and offer interesting insights into the portrayal of these iconic Hindi film stars in film publicity material. The memorabilia will go under the hammer in the Capital on March 29. The auction is aimed at stimulating interest in Indian film memorabilia as well as promote books for the emerging collector. For the first time, entire private libraries will be auctioned. These include a collection of several important books on Indian art and culture, international art and rare exhibition catalogues. Neville Tuli, Chairman of Osian's Connoisseurs of Art Pvt. Ltd., says: "With this auction, books on Indian art and culture will be introduced in a significant manner. The potential for this market is immense over the coming years. At the same time, over 100 artworks of modern and contemporary Indian art for the emerging collector have been selected. These works of master artists will help the new collectors to start building a serious art collection. Taking forward the film memorabilia and popular culture market, this auction presents select items and is an indication of our major auction coming up in July."
