HUBLI: The bodies of two teenage siblings who drowned in the Unakal lake here on Tuesday were found on Wednesday. The victims were identified as Shridhar (18) and Prem (14), sons of Daniel Subbanna Ananthpur, who works as a ward assistant in Vivekananda General Hospital. According to the police, Shridhar, who worked as a ward boy in Vivekananda General Hospital, his younger brother Prem and three friends, Mahesh, Prashanth and Naveen, went to the lake on Tuesday afternoon for a swim. Mahesh, Prashanth and Naveen, who did not know how to swim, stayed in the shallow part of the tank. Prem and Shridhar went further into the lake. After a while the others noticed that the brothers were missing. They alerted passers-by, who informed the police. Although the police immediately began a search for the bodies, it proved futile. The bodies were recovered on Wednesday morning.
To be closed
In the wake of the accident, the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has decided not to allow people on to the tank bund. Municipal Commissioner P. Manivannan told presspersons that the tank bund would be closed immediately. The Commissioner also directed an executive engineer to inspect the spot and submit a report on developing the road that passes by the tank bund.
