BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Kusum Singh Mehdele told the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday that the State Government has decided to reserve 50 per cent elected seats in civic bodies and the three-tier panchayats for women.

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet met here on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan and decided to amend Madhya Pradesh Nagar Palika Adhiniyam to provide for 50 per cent reservation of posts of mayors, chairmen civic bodies and corporators.

It was also decided to cancel the provision that disqualifies a person having more than two children from contesting the civic elections.

In the Assembly, the Government gave the assurance on Wednesday that the State Madarsa Board members eligibility criteria would be examined. This assurance was given by the State School Education Minister Narottam Mishra during question hour in response to a query by the Congress MLA, Arif Aqueel.

The Minister said that the process to examine the eligibility for induction as a member of the State Madarsa Board would be completed before the next Assembly session.

Participating in the discussion, Mr. Aqueel said it was proper on the part of the chairman State Madarsa Board to submit his resignation. Now action is imperative against the other members as even their eligibility is being questioned.

Later when a member demanded action against officials posted at the same post for more than three years in the School Education department, the Minister announced that such officers would be removed.

Answering another question by the former Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh, the Minister for Technical Education, Vijay Shah told the House that the State Government had no plan to privatise the Government polytechnic colleges.
