Manmohan pats Transco, Genco

  • CEA presents gold and silver shields to Transco

    HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has lauded the AP Transco and AP Genco for maintaining high standards in power sector.

    Dr. Singh is stated to have spoken of the "constant endeavour" made by the Transco and Genco to place themselves at the top, while presenting shields and awards to the CMDs -- Rachel Chatterjee and Ajay Jain, at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday.

    The Transco secured gold and silver shields of the Central Electricity Authority for 2005-06 and 2004-05 for maintaining high rate of "transmission system availability" at 400-KV and 220-KV levels respectively. The Genco bagged "Comprehensive Award" of the Union Ministry of Power for outstanding performance of its thermal/hydel stations during these years as indicated by plant load factor etc.

    Speaking to The Hindu after receiving the award, Ms. Chatterjee said the awards bear testimony to the efficient management of the transmission system, ensuring quality power supply. She said Rs 4,498 crores would be spent to improve the transmission system during the 11th plan with the construction of 10 more 400-KV sub-stations, 28 220-KV sub-stations and 42 132-KV sub-stations and laying of 5,521 circuit km of high voltage lines.

    Mr Jain said no other utility in the country had bagged five prestigious awards during the last year as Genco.
