HYDERABAD: The Congress leadership suffered a severe jolt when one of the APCC general secretaries, Danam Nagender, decided to resign from the party in protest against denial of ticket for the Council election. Mr. Nagender announced his decision to quit on Wednesday morning after faxing his resignation letter to the APCC president K. Keshava Rao and Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said he would take `political sanyas' as he was vexed with the designs of the vested interests that had denied him the party ticket. The Congress leader said "some sections" within the Congress worked against his interests in New Delhi. Mr. Nagender was Congress MLA for two terms from Asifnagar constituency in Hyderabad before he switched over to the TDP in the 2004 Assembly elections on being denied the Congress ticket. After winning the seat on TDP ticket, he resigned and contested again as Congress candidate but was defeated in the by-election. Since then, Mr. Nagender was hoping to secure an entry into the Council either under the MLA quota or through direct nomination by the Governor. However, the APCC did not include him in the list of probables submitted to the Congress high command.
