MTNL announces new scheme

NEW DELHI: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited on Wednesday announced that it would give a free GSM mobile connection to those customers subscribing to its broadband or landline connection. The free prepaid mobile SIM card will come with Rs.55 talk-time and 20-day validity.

The Government-owned telecom company has also decided to waive off Rs.1,300 for registration, installation and security deposit payable at the time of applying for a new broadband connection. The scheme is open till March 31.

Distance-learning programme

NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited has announced a tie-up with Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), Pilani, to introduce a three-year distance-learning programme on power engineering for its employees.

Selection of the first batch comprising 40 employees was done through an entrance test.

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, NDPL, Sunil Wadhwa said: "It reiterates our commitment to constantly augment our most important asset -- our people".

Award for NHPC chairman

NEW DELHI: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) chairman, S.K. Garg was on Wednesday presented the gold and silver award by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh for early completion of the two units of 125 MW each of the 1000 MW Indira Sagar Hydroelectric Project, a joint venture company with Madhya Pradesh Government.

Mr. Garg along with S.P. Sen, Director (Technical) also received the award for Chamera-I power station.
