MOMENTOUS OCCASION: The train which has been extended to Nagpur city via Adilabad, being given a ceremonial welcome at Adilabad railway station.
ADILABAD: The Nagpur-Mumbai-Nagpur daily express train which slowly rolled onto the platform at Adilabad railway station on Wednesday brought with it the promise of new economic vistas to this backward yet, cotton rich area. Momentous occasion
The emotion and enthusiasm of the large crowd that was present to see the train went well with the occasion, described by some as momentous in the history of the district. The train, which originally ran between Mumbai and Nanded has been extended to Nagpur via Adilabad and it serves to meet the old demand of local people for a train on this route.
Trading
Over 50 lakh quintals of cotton is traded and processed in Adilabad market every season which includes about half the quantity which arrives from places in Maharashtra, Karimnagar and Warangal districts. Important link
This makes it the single largest unit in cotton trade and the opening of transport links will certainly bring better days. Cotton traders also say that the savings of about 50 per cent on transport of cotton bales to places like Mumbai and Coimbatore will also be transferred to farmers what with the demand for their produce going up locally. The demand is set to increase with the rise in number of cotton processing units in near future.
