Vaiko criticises arrest of party functionary
Special Correspondent
Vaiko
CHENNAI:
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday criticised the State Government for "foisting a false case" against a party functionary.
In a statement here, he said MDMK organising secretary Seema Basheer had been arrested for his alleged involvement in smuggling iron balls to Sri Lanka. A case had been registered. The MDMK, which was supporting the Sri Lankan Tamils in their fight against the island government, had never indulged in unlawful or violent activities in Tamil Nadu and would not do so in future. Mr. Vaiko said the recent arrest was an attempt to demoralise MDMK workers. But they would not be cowed down by such "threats. "
