NEW DELHI: Simranjeet Kaur, the dismissed Uttar Pradesh police sub-inspector, who was in charge of the Nithari police post in nearby Noida, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribes to favour Moninder Singh and his servant Surender Koli, accused in the serial killings, in a case of criminal assault and murder of a woman. Some other police personnel are also now under the CBI scanner. Simranjeet's complicity came to light during interrogation of Moninder. He reportedly disclosed that he bribed her to clear his name in a case against him and Surender of alleged criminal assault and murder of a 20-year-old woman named Payal. The local police had registered the case following a court order on a petition moved by the victim's father Nand Lal. In January, the CBI said it came across evidence indicating that Simranjeet tried to derail the investigations into Payal's murder. She allegedly took money and gifts from Moninder. Moninder's mobile phone records revealed that she was in regular touch with him, the CBI said. It raided Simranjeet's Meerut residence in January and recovered some documents and a bank-locker key. She was subsequently questioned. On Wednesday, she was again questioned and later arrested.
