Former Minister's car hit by lorry

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : Former Law Minister D. Jayakumar's car was hit by a lorry on Grand Southern Trunk Road in Meenambakkam on Wednesday evening. However, no one was hurt.

The former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Minister was returning to Chennai after taking part in a day-long fast observed by partymen in Kancheepuram on the Cauvery issue.

Mr. Jayakumar's Scorpio was hit by the lorry around 7 p.m. The lorry, transporting a load of sand, was heading to the construction site of a bridge in the city. Though the former Minister's vehicle was damaged, neither Mr. Jayakumar nor Sekar, the driver, were injured. The former Minister was accommodated in another vehicle and taken to the city. The driver of the lorry abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.

Meenambakkam police registered a case and after preliminary investigations, transferred it to Tambaram Traffic Police (Investigation).
