Auto owners warned

CHENNAI : The Regional Transport Authority has warned autorickshaw owners that if they do not recalibrate their meters, they will face suspension of permit and driving licence.

In a press release on Wednesday, Joint Transport Commissioner K.Yogarajan said that so far only 15,484 vehicles out of the 45,000-odd vehicles in the city had recalibrated their meters to the newly revised tariff of Rs.14 for the first two km and Rs.6 for every subsequent km. The deadline for vehicles with electronic meters expired March 11. But so far only 7,807 of the 30,666 vehicles with electronic meters have been calibrated. The last date for calibration of vehicles with mechanical meters is April 25. So far, 7,677 vehicles have been calibrated.
