Decentralisation move on Central grants opposed

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: M. Sai Reddy, Director of the Task Force, Food Processing Ministry, has opposed the move to decentralise the schemes for providing grant-in-aid to manufacturers for technology upgradation/modernisation of their units.

In a letter to the ministry sent on Wednesday, he expressed "deep shock" over the move, saying that the proposed decentralisation would lead to total dependence on banks for implementation of the scheme.

"It would be at their whims and fancies." He contended that under the new system elected representatives would have difficulty in meeting ministers and officials for redressal of their grievances. Mr. Reddy sought stoppage of the decentralisation work, which would hamper the growth of industry.

He said since the scheme was socially beneficial, all MPs should take the initiative to stop the decentralisation process.
