Bangalore: Who says Gen Y cannot wield the pen with power? Tanushree Bhandari, a Class 12 student at the Indus International School, Bangalore, has topped the All India Essay Competition organised by the Tata Group in Delhi. She won the first prize for her essay "How would I make India a superpower if I were Prime Minister of India." Chosen for the senior and middle category, Tanushree was declared the winner among 1,35,000 students. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam felicitated Tanushree and the other winners at a function held at Rastrapathi Bhavan in February. In her 2,000-word essay, Tanushree emphasised on the pivotal role played by the Prime Minister in working for the betterment of the nation. Tanushree expressed the need to strengthen India's economy and armed forces. She highlighted the need for India to be self-contained in the fields of food, energy and technology. The competition witnessed participation from 80,000 students in the senior's category. While Tanushree bagged the first place, students from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata also featured in the winners list. An exultant Tanushree said: "My essay came straight from the heart. I put my self in the Prime Minister's shoes and realised what a tough job it is. My views were very practical for an over populated country like ours. Winning this has changed my entire outlook in life. I strive to be a good and responsible citizen." Apart from being awarded a medal and an interactive session with the President, Tanushree also received a personal desktop computer.
