Progress of several schemes discussed

TIRUCHI: A meeting of the district monitoring and vigilance committee to oversee the implementation of the rural development schemes being implemented in the district with the financial assistance of the Central Government was held here on Wednesday. The Joint Chairman of the committee, L. Ganesan, MP, presided over the meeting held in the presence of the Collector, Ashish Vachhani.

The progress of the Indira memorial housing scheme, Samboorna rural employment scheme, total health campaign, MP's local area development scheme, Prime Minister's rural roads development scheme, NABARD scheme, 12th Finance Commission scheme, drought prone area programme, integrated tehri land development scheme was discussed.

Mr. Ganesan underlined the importance of maintaining quality of the works being implemented under the Central Government schemes. All the works should be completed as per schedule and brought for public use. The requirement of cement and other materials needed in the execution of the projects should be taken to the notice of the Collector.

Mr. Vachhani said the chairpersons of the panchayat unions had to play an important role in the implementation of the schemes. The village panchayat presidents and the panchayat union chairpersons should take effective steps to understand the needs of the people and they could bring to his notice the problems being faced in the execution of the project.The chairperson of the district panchayat, Sangeetha, the project officer, District Rural Development Agency, P. Anandaraj, and others participated.
