NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it had accepted its suggestion to take over all primary schools run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to improve the quality of education and the basic amenities.

Counsel for the Government made this submission to a Division Bench comprising Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna during the hearing of a bunch of petitions including by voluntary organisation Social Jurist seeking improvement in the quality of education in the MCD and the Delhi Government schools.

The Bench then asked the Government to file an affidavit stating its decision to take over these schools.

It further directed the Government to run its schools on the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalyas run by the Union Government.

The Bench had last week suggested to the Delhi Government to consider taking over all primary schools run by the civic body to improve the quality of education and the basic facilities.

The matter will now come up for hearing on March 28.
