This Day That Age
The UP Government has to play father to over 30 refugee girls from East Bengal, who are looking forward to marriage. The Government is on the look out for suitable bridegrooms for these girls. Already the Government has married off 11 refugee girls with the help of the rehabilitation grant of Rs. 200 which each of them was given. The Government has now sanctioned a special marriage grant of Rs. 250 for each girl. The difficulty so far experienced by the Government has not been so much in finding suitable bridegrooms, as in making the girls accept them. The girls are said to be very firm in their choice; they are Bengalis and do not want to marry a non-Bengali or even a Bengali outside their caste.
