Walkout in Kerala Assembly over Nandigram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Opposition members on Thursday walked out of the Kerala Assembly in protest against the Speaker's denial of permission to raise the Nandigram issue in the House.

Just as the day's legislative business was to begin, Deputy Leader of the Opposition G. Karthikeyan sought the chair's permission to report to the House what he and his colleague K.V. Thomas had learned about the police firing at Nandigram, in West Bengal.The members of the ruling LDF were immediately on their feet, protesting. The House witnessed a noisy scenes.At this point, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy announced a walkout.
