Thiruvananthapuram
The UDF Opposition emerged from its long period of hibernation to send political temperatures soaring in the city Corporation council on Wednesday. The failure of the Corporation to get the detailed project reports for the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) cleared by the Centre came in handy for the UDF to take the ruling front by its horns. Despite spirited resistance from the Treasury benches, they managed to highlight the issue and put the LDF on the defensive. The aggressive mood of the UDF appears to be driven by the need to put up a challenge to the ruling front during the annual budget presentation and the debate on the proposals that are scheduled to take place in the council next week.
