TTD to bring out CDs on Annamayya keertanas

Only 1,100 of the 32,000 lyrics authored by the saint are popular


  • TTD has manuscripts of some 12,000 keertanas
  • 100-foot statue of the saint to be installed in Tallapaka

    KADAPA: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams will bring out 11,000 keertanas authored by saint-lyricist Tallapaka Annamacharya, which are unknown to people, in song form on compact discs, its Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy said on Wednesday.

    Of 32,000 keertanas authored by Annamacharya, 1,100 became popular among people in the last three decades, but manuscripts of some 20,000 keertanas were unavailable, Mr. Reddy said at the 504th `vardhanti' of Annamacharya at Tallapaka in Rajampet mandal. The TTD Chairman said Annamacharya had propagated the greatness of Indian culture and Vedas and significance of Lord Venkateswara to the world.

    Annamacharya espoused the cause of social justice and equality, he said.TTD would install a 100-foot statue of Annamacharya near the arch leading to Tallapaka village.
