A sound proposition

When was the last time you listened to the pure sound of music? Music without high-voltage cables, ear-piercing decibel level and unromantic fluorescent light bulbs, that is.

The Vamshi Academy of Music Trust and Guruskool have come up with a series of Carnatic concerts called Temple Bells where musicians will perform in an unhurried ambience on instruments such as the bamboo flute, one of the most ancient musical instruments, and on the veena, commonly acknowledged as the mother of musical instruments.

The venue, appropriately enough, will be carefully selected temples around the city. The first concert of the series begins with a flute duet by B.K. Anantha Ram and Amith A. Nadig and a veena concert by Geetha Navale accompanied by R. Dayakar on the violin, N. Vasudev on the mridanga and N.S. Krishna Prasad on the ghata.

The programme is on March 25 at the Sri Jayamaruthi temple, Kamalanagar Main Road, Basaveshwaranagar, 6 p.m. onwards.
