Unflagging enthusiasm

Age has not dampened MLA Kunjiraman's enthusiasm for agricultural activities.

At a function organised recently at Pilikkode to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the world's first hybrid coconut plantation, the Thrikkarippur MLA, who is over 60, astonished viewers by climbing a coconut palm using a tree-climbing machine. The machine manufactured by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was exhibited at the function.

The marketing team claimed that even people who had never climbed a coconut palm could do so with ease with the help of the machine. The MLA then expressed a desire to test the machine. The agility with which Mr. Kunjiraman handled the machine to climb the palm surprised viewers. The manufacturers claimed that the machine fulfilled all safety norms. It costs Rs.2,500.

Ollur MLA Rajaji Mathew Thomas and scientists of Kerala Agricultural University, which owns the hybrid coconut farm, were also present.
