Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has assured a delegation of residents and farmers of the Thengaithittu village near here that the Government will not acquire farm lands for the proposed port development project in the village. Mr Rangasamy told The Hindu on Thursday that the delegation accompanied by local MLA M. A. S. Subramanian, met him and expressed their apprehension about the land being acquired for the project. He said he would ensure that there would be no threat to lands. Mr. Rangasamy said he had also called a meeting with farmers at his chamber on Friday.
CPI(M) plea
The Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s Puducherry unit secretary V. Perumal on Tuesday called upon Mr. Rangasamy to put on hold the construction of a deep-sea port at Thengaithittu here in view of the apprehensions among residents, farmers and wage labourers of the village. Addressing presspersons at the Press Club, Mr Perumal, said a detailed memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister at a meeting on Monday.
