ONGOLE: In a significant decision that will have bearing on the tobacco growers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the Union Minister for Commerce, Kamal Nath, today agreed to allow Foreign Direct Investment in tobacco processing and cigarette manufacturing sectors. A.P. Virginia Tobacco Growers' Welfare Association president, Chunduru Ranga Rao, told The Hindu from New Delhi. He said that Mr. Kamal Nath has also agreed to address a rally of tobacco growers to be held at Ongole next month. A large contingent of farmers from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka met the Commerce Minister at New Delhi on Thursday.
