Corrections and Clarifications

* The third paragraph in a report "[Pakistani judge Rana] Bhagwandas back home" ("International" page, March 22, 2007) was: "Lawyers boycotted courts in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and several other cities and towns in Punjab and Singh provinces." It should have been Punjab and Sindh provinces.

* This column has had a few entries clarifying that Pranab Mukherjee is no longer Defence Minister but is External Affairs Minister. The mistake appeared again in an interview "The marginalised have a right to be listened to: [Nobel Peace Prize winner] Wangari Maathai" (Op-Ed, March 22, 2007).

* The caption of the accompanying PTI photograph in a report "UPA, Left discuss price rise, Sachar recommendations" (March 22, 2007) was: "Taking Stock: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during the UPA-Left Coordination Committee meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday", while the text of the report by our Special Correspondent stated that price rise and implementation of recommendations of the Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee on the status of Muslims in the country came up for discussion at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the constituents of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and supporting Left parties on Wednesday. The Special Correspondent's report was correct.

* It is the Jabalpur Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and not the Jabalpur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court as incorrectly stated in a report "Culpable intent amounts to outraging modesty: [Supreme] court" (March 21, 2007).

* "The boy who stood on the burning deck/Whence all but him had fled" was Casabianca, and not Casablanca as stated in a report "[Madras High] court declines to declare strike illegal" (Chennai city edition, March 20, 2007, page 6). The lines are from the poem "Casabianca" by Felicia Dorothea Hemans.

* The expansion of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led DPA is Democratic Progressive Alliance, and not Democratic People's Alliance, as stated in the text and strapline of a report "Manmohan Singh urged not to accept Karnataka's plea on Cauvery award" (Chennai city edition, March 22, 2007, page 8).
