TAKING A PLEDGE: Leaders of Rayalaseema Hakkula Aikya Vedika lighting lamps at a meeting in Anantapur on Thursday.
ANANTAPUR: President of `Rayalaseema Hakkula Aikya Vedika' T.G. Venkatesh has demanded the State Government to utilise entire State share of the Krishna as per Sreebagh Declaration of 1937 by diverting the Godavari to the Krishna command area in Coastal Andhra. Speaking at a meeting of vedika here on Thursday, he alleged that Rayalaseema was being neglected on all fronts since ages. He appealed to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to sacrifice his post, if need be, in the interests of Rayalaseema. On the protests of Telangana and Coastal Andhra leaders against the capacity expansion of Pothireddypadu head regulator, Mr. Venkatesh cautioned that the people of Rayalaseema would not keep quiet, if their interests were harmed by others. Vedika was mobilising Rayalaseema people irrespective of political affiliations to conduct agitations , he stated. He mentioned that Rayalaseema was denied development of Rs. one lakh crores due to `samaikhyandhra'. While Coastal Andhra had progressed on agriculture front, Telangana had developed industrially, he noted. He demanded setting up of a High Court bench and second capital in Rayalaseema as in Maharashtra, making Hyderabad as second capital of the country and also a union territory in the event of separation of Telangana, implementation of G.O .564 and formation of new districts with Nandyal, Guntakal, Proddatur, Tirupati, Markapuram and Puttaparthi as headquarters.
Demands
Further, he sought fast completion of Pothireddypadu, Handri-Neeva, Galeru-Nagari, Penna Ahobilam, Velugonda, Tungabhadra parallel canal, Gundlamotu and taking up Siddeshwaram project, setting up universities in Kurnool, Ongole and Nellore, special package for development in Anantapur, Chittoor, Kurnool, Kadapa, Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Relay fast
Former Ministers -- H.B. Narse Gowda, A. Veerappa and G. Nagi Reddy -- former legislator M.S. Parthasarathi and others also spoke. Later, they submitted a memorandum to DRO M. Sudarshan Reddy. A few activists of vedika also sat on relay fast in front of the Collectorate.
