`State set to achieve I-T collection target'

  • I-T department has collected Rs. 9,076 crores till March 1
  • State on the seventh position in matter of income tax collection

    ANANTAPUR: Chief Commissioner of Income Tax M. Narasimhappa has stated that target for income tax collection in the State will be achieved this year. Against a target of Rs. 9,085 crores, the department has collected Rs. 9,076 crores till March 1, he states.

    Talking to newspersons here on Wednesday , he said Andhra Pradesh was on the seventh position in the country in matter of income tax collection.

    Prompt payment of taxes by citizens would enable the Governments to extend better services to the people, he noted.

    He complimented Income Tax Officer Venkateshwarly, who implemented a novel scheme in Anantapur district for the first time in the country in the name of "File today smile tomorrow".

    Under the scheme, 3, 400 assesses had filed their income tax return in one day and 1, 200 of them were paid refund the very next day.

    Felicitation

    There were 32,000 income tax assesses in the district and another 5,000 had registered this year. Of the target of Rs. 25 crores fixed for the current year, they had already collected Rs. 20 crores income tax. With the help of a survey, the department had collected an additional Rs. 4.8 crores this year.

    Filing returns

    He explained that there were 60 assesses in the district with more than Rs. 10 lakhs income and 52 of them had already filed their returns this year. Later, he was felicitated by Tax Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce and traders and auditors.

    Income Tax Commissioner of Tirupati A. Bhaskar Reddy and Anantapur Range Additional Commissioner N. Amrutha Rao, Tax Bar Association president Meda Subramanyam, Chamber of Commerce president N. Seshanjaneyulu and others were present.
