Bidar: A national conference on "Dr Ambedkar and Social Justice" was inaugurated at the Karnataka College in Bidar on Thursday. Writer of law books, K.S. Bagale, spoke about Dr. Ambedkar and the Constitution. He pointed out that Acts against untouchability, atrocities and other forms of discrimination were thought of and well-drafted. Sadly, many of these Acts remained on paper, he said. Prof. Bagale however, felt that India had succeeded in solving many problems in 60 years. "We have definitely started the process of social change. However, we all want it to be faster," he said. S. Sudarshan who chaired the session expressed concern that evils such as untouchability continued even after six decades of Independence. Historian B.R. Konda inaugurated the conference. The conference was sponsored by the University Grants Commission, Dr. Ambedkar Study Centre director S. Dhanapal said. College chairman Channabasappa Halahalli, vice-president B.G. Shetkar and principal V.S. Khandale were present.
