Poor maintenance of records by departments

CHITRADURGA: The monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting here on Thursday was delayed at the start owing to the late arrival of zilla panchayat president Timmanna.

This was followed by a further delay of over an hour owing to the maintenance of confusing records and the lack of information available with the officials present.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the zilla panchayat V. Rangaswamy, who was chairing the meeting, sought a clarification from an official of the Karnataka Land Army Corporation (KLAC) on the amount being spent on projects.

The official replied that the department had been given Rs 1.63 crore for constructing a new zilla panchayat meeting hall and other buildings on its premises.

However, zilla panchayat Chief Account Officer Manjunath said that an additional Rs. 42 lakh had been given to the corporation, which had not mentioned. But the official denied this.

The CEO then asked the ZP official to furnish the documents.

When he did so, the KLAC official protested that he had been unaware of the records, which had not been submitted to him.

The whole procedure consumed nearly 40 minutes during the meeting.
